| My child and I are new to gymnastics, what should we be looking for in a program? This is a great question! The most important things that you should be looking for in a how are the instructors trained, what is the condition of the facility, are there consistent instructors for each class, and is there a curriculum that the program follows. These are all important factors that will contribute to your child's experience in the sport of gymnastics. OK, then for Island Tumblers Gymnastics, what are the student to staff ratio's for classes, how are the instructors trained, what is the condition of the facility, are there consistent instructors for each class, and is there a curriculum that the program follows? The student to staff ratio's in toddler and preschool classes are 6:1, in beginners it is 8:1 and in advanced and tumbling it is 10:1. Our instructors are trained individually based on USA Gymnastics training materials. We also require our staff to attend clinics and seminars throughout the year. Educating our staff is one of our top priorities. Our facility is one of the best on the island. The condition of our facility is another one of our top priorities. We have an extremely detailed daily cleaning regiment that keeps our facility clean and safe. In addition, we also focus on disinfecting and sanitizing daily. Our instructors are assigned to classes, and are consistently coaching the same classes throughout the year. However, sometimes due to an instructor being sick, or changes to college schedules, we may have someone substitute or change their schedule. We make every attempt to minimize this at all costs. We know how important it is for your child to form a relationship with their instructor. We design our program curriculum's weekly, based on the latest training material available through USA Gymnastics. In addition, we believe that it is important to be able to track your child's progress so we have semiannual report cards, and program performances. There seems to be a lot of different programs on the island what is the difference between theirs and yours? Another good question! We feel that each club on the island has something to offer. Really it depends on your child. Our philosophy is that every child can find a program that is best suited for them. Our goal is to generate greater interest in this sport, while we would like it to be with us, we know that we can not accommodate every child's needs. Our suggestion; ask the questions, and try different programs; children are extremely responsive to things that they like. You will be able to tell when your child and a program fit well together. Is there a way for my child to try your program before we sign-up? Absolutely! Call our office at (808) 678-2999, and ask about a free trial class. We are the parents of a small child and we know how frustrating it can be when you sign your child up for something and it turns out that he/she doesn't want to do it. This is why we offer a free trial class. You, as a parent, have every right to be able to see what you are signing up for before you enroll. In fact we encourage it! Are there specific rules and policies for your program? Yes, you can view, download and print them from the sessions and registration link. When will I know when my child is ready to move up in the program? Another good question! Here at Island Tumblers Gymnastics, LLC we believe that every child should progress safely, and positively through the sport of gymnastics. In keeping with this philosophy we have designed mobility requirements to move throughout all levels of our gymnastics program. We believe that both parents and athletes deserve the right to know what is required in order to move up into each new program, therefore we make every effort to keep both you and your athlete educated in their progress. For our recreational classes we do gymnastics report cards and evaluations. For our competitive team program we do evaluations and proficiency tests. In our main office we have a posted list of all the requirements to move through our levels. We hope you find them helpful. If you ever feel your child is ready to be evaluated for the next level we will be happy to schedule an evaluation for you with one of our professional coaching staff members.
